Being a private free house we are able to source our drinks from anywhere. This ensures we are able to maintain quality alongside reasonable prices.

The majority of our stock is sourced from a local wholesaler in Hereford (rather than through the major breweries). This includes our spirits and drinks on tap such as Carlsberg, Stella 4, Stowfords Press Cider, Strongbow, and Flowers Best.

However, one area a landlord, especially one in Hereford, can be particularly creative is in their choice of real ales, ciders and of course our wine.

Real Ales

We regularly source our ales from local brewers and are always on the lookout for more choice. Currently, our key suppliers of ale are:

Hereford brewery in Hereford, a brewery started on a shoe-string at the back of the Victory pub in Hereford but has managed to produce some great tasting ales.

Wye Valley brewery in Stoke Lacy, a bigger brewery with humble beginnings in Hereford. Currently producing a wide variety of award winning ales available in both cask and bottle.

Mayfield brewery in Leominster, a new brewer and brewery site makes this one of the newest set ups in Herefordshire. Mayfield currently produces great ale, including Naughty Nell’s that is regularly available in the Moon. We are looking forward to more great products from them in the future.

Rhymney brewery in Wales (The Landlord is Welsh after all!). We take their famous Hobby Horse ale that has been produced by them for many years.

Ciders

Our bottled cider, Ty Gwyn, comes from Skenfrith, the next village to us. An award winning cider produced on a farm just over the border in Wales.

In addition to bottled we also have draught cider available (particularly in the summer). Recently we have sourced both cider and perry from Westons cider in Much Marcle. In particular, their cloudy scrumpy, Old Rosie which at 7.3% needs respecting!

Wines

We also enjoy our wine in the Moon and, with the help of Tanners Wine Merchants, we have produced our 2011 Wine List that should satisfy everybody’s requirements.

In addition to our core wine menu we also source some very local wine. Treago estate (1 mile away) produces some fantastic wine from predominantly English grapes. A great achievement given the location and climate. They also have some lovely cottages for you to stay in!
